GAK Summer Camp Themes 2023
WEEK 1
🚀June 26th to June 30 -Space/STEAM-🚀
Blast off to outer space and make some great art! Are your children as excited about space as we are? Planets and space exploration can be so exciting to learn about. Campers will use a variety of arts materials while learning about space and incorporate elements of S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts & mathematics) into their space-themed art activities.

WEEK 2
♻️July 3th to July 7th -Found/Recycled Art-♻️
WE WILL BE CLOSED ON JULY 4TH
One person's trash is an artist's treasure! Recycled art can be described as art that uses materials that are usually discarded, as the primary medium. Our campers will learn to create works of art from non-traditional recycled, upcycled and collected materials. They will look at and discuss other artists using the same materials.  There is no rule as to what types of materials can be used, provided it fits the criterion of being “waste”, such as plastic, metal, paper, electronic waste, or any other found objects.

WEEK 3
🐚July 10th to July 14th -Under the Sea-🐚
Take a deep dive with us and create art inspired by the beauty of everything under the sea! From octopus sculptures to fish printmaking and seashell painting we have something for every ocean-lover.  But beware the pirates and crabs! Let your child dive right in and learn about the amazing oceans and all that live within it.

WEEK 4
🌍July 17th to July 21st -Around the World- (road trip/hot air balloon ride/traveling)🌍
Pack your bags, art campers! We're going on a trip to explore and create art from as many different countries as we can fit into a week. We will road trip through route 66, take a hot air balloon ride over the alps and discuss all means of travel while we cover as many countries as possible this week. Get those passports ready!

WEEK 5
🏰July 24th to July 28th -Medieval Times-🏰
Hear ye hear ye! We're lowering the drawbridge; come one, come all for some medieval art and fun. Campers will transform into knights, jesters, princesses, princes and create castles, dragons and learn about what life was like during the Medieval times. Campers will use their imaginations as they transform themselves and their artwork to the times of old.

WEEK 6
⌛July 31st to August 4 th -Time Machine-⌛
Hop in our time machine, it’s set to travel back to the Jurassic Era. Campers will take an imaginative history tour and create art, using various arts materials, from a new time period each day, starting with prehistoric times when dinosaurs roamed and ending with present day.

WEEK 7
🪄August 7th to August 11th -"Forestland"🪄
Once upon a time there was a wonderfully painted forest within GAK called Forestland which was full of fairies and gnomes and magic, oh my! With a little magic and a lot of creativity campers will create their own enchanted forest world! Our enchanted artists will venture into the world of fairies and nature, by building fairy houses and communities or creating a nature sculpture, painting with mud and possibly making a flower crown.

WEEK 8
🎨August 14th to August 18th -Community Art/Collaborative Art-🎨
We are a community of artists! What does it mean to be in a community and how do artists collaborate? Collaborative arts practice involves artists and communities working closely together, often over extended periods of time, to make art. By using the experiences and skills of each person taking part, campers will learn how to cooperate to create collaborative art, learn about public art and what the arts bring to their community. By the end of the week they will have formed their own little artist collective.
