Scholarship
Gabriel’s Art Kids After School Arts Program, operates on a break-even basis. Unlike many after school-based programs we receive no government or other outside funding. Although scholarship subsidies do not cover our costs, we are strongly committed to offering subsidized rates to families whose children otherwise might not be able to experience our award-winning after school arts program. Any donations are greatly appreciated and 100% of the money goes directly to student tuition.
Scholarships/tuition reduction is based on the following criteria:
Gabriels Art Kids provides an environment that is safe, nurturing, and open to all learning possibilities and styles. We don't use just one philosophy of educating, we use parts of all; Montessori, Reggio Emilia, The Project Method and Constructivism. We encourage children to experiment, take risks, make mistakes, and try something new in their quest to succeed. Discovery, hands-on, experiential, collaborative, project-based, and task-based learning are a few of the ways we engage students. Opportunities for art, music, creative dramatics, puppetry, science, small and large motor-skill development and school readiness are the core of the curriculum. Individual creation and exploration are coupled with collaborative projects such as group paintings and large sculptures.
Young artists will explore elements of design, a variety of styles, discover and build creative confidence using a variety of media. Art Explorations both encourages an interest in the arts and aims to develop students cognitive skills, self-esteem and self-expression. Students will use a variety of art media with ideas to excite the imagination and stimulate the senses. Materials will include but are not limited to - drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts and more!
Learning through the arts enlivens instruction, increases student involvement, and deepens both memory and meaning. The arts are infused throughout curricular areas to engage the whole child and provide for various methods of expression.
Researchers found that when students received arts-integrated lessons compared to more traditional teaching practices, they improved their ability to assess their learning, and reported that the arts integrated instruction created greater intrinsic motivation, encouraged learning for understanding, turned what students perceived to be barriers into opportunities to be solved, and motivated students to continue learning.
"Learning through mistakes for arts students—for all students—learning comes from taking risks, making mistakes, and applying feedback."

OUR STORY
We have been part of the Bellingham community for 10 years as of this fall!
We started as an after school and early childhood program, and we are now serving more than 160 families between all of our programs for preschool-6th grade. We believe that art is not just another subject to teach but also a way of teaching all the other subjects. This is why each of our programs is deeply invested is using art to educate, entertain, transform and inspire each of our students. |
OUR PROGRAMS/OFFERING
ASAPSudents are transported or dropped off after their public school day ends.
They will explore a variety of art materials such as clay, paint, cornstarch and fabric while learning that the most important part of art is the process not the product. Class opportunities include but are not limited to music, culinary arts, theatre, drawing, recycled materials and animation. Our enthusiastic and talented teachers make every afternoon an adventure. We believe art teaches children life skills such as developing an informed perception; articulating a vision; learning to solve problems and make decisions; building self confidence and self discipline; developing the ability to imagine what might be; and accepting responsibility to complete tasks from start to finish. |
