ASAP CLASSES

In a fun-filled atmosphere, our classes aim to give our students ongoing confidence, self-esteem and skills in verbal communication.

Classes offered are...

Music Explorations & Discoveries

Each week we'll take our students on an imaginary journey to inspire creative learning with singing, movement and playing instruments.  Classes include but are not limited to:
Beginning Ukulele

Choral Explorations
Movement and Rythym

Visual Arts & Art Explorations

Young artists will explore elements of design, a variety of styles, discover and build creative confidence using a variety of media. Art Explorations both encourages an interest in the arts and aims to develop students cognitive skills, self-esteem and self-expression. Students will use a variety of art media with ideas to excite the imagination and stimulate the senses. Materials will include but are not limited to - drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts and more!

Teaching Artist Series**

A primary objective of our Arts in Education program is to cultivate the field of professional teaching artists. We will invite teaching artists from all over Whatcom County into our classroom as well as we will visit their studios, to show and teach us how they create art. Each artist will teach for about a month, showing the students their techniques and then having them reproduce and create their own works of art.

**A Teaching Artist is a professional visual, performing, or literary artist who works in schools and in the community. The Teaching Artist may perform for the students and teachers, may work in long term or short-term residencies in classrooms or in a community setting, or may lead in program development through involvement in curricular planning and residencies with school partners. The Teaching Artist is an educator who integrates the creative process into the classroom and the community.

Theater Basics/ Living Literature

This drama program will provide young children ages 5 to 12 with unique opportunities to develop clear speech, fluent delivery and pleasing social skills. Students in our drama class participate in a wide range of creative activities including speech, dramatic movement, improvisation, snippets and scene starters. At the end of each year they utilize all the skills acquired during the year to perform a short, scripted production for parents and friends. In our Living Literature Program we take a children's book and transform it for the stage through music, drama, movement and set/costume design. With the help of both drama, music and arts teachers we will work with students to discover what aspects of production they are drawn to, and how they can best participate and collaborate.

Cooking/Baking

These classes allow children to experiment with various foods they may not have a chance to taste at home.  They will learn proper measuring skills and how to follow recipes. Students will taste food in all it's forms, raw, roasted, sautéed, etc. and decide which they like best. They will also look at and discuss the origin of the food they are making, where did it come from, how and why was it made.

What Our Clients Are Saying

I stumbled upon Gabriel's quite by accident 3 years ago, and it has been one of the biggest blessings in our families life. I sent my first child, a then barely verbal 3 year old without many social tendencies, and within a year he had blossomed into a talkative nearly on par with peers social little boy who loved playing with friends. They offered him an environment that was rich in play and sensory, with staff that truly wear their hearts on their sleeves and give our children unconditional love and acceptance and a safe place to learn, with no expectations set upon them except to be who they are.
