ASAP at Sunnyland

This year we are thrilled to announce we will be on location at Sunnyland Elementary School starting in fall 2014 and running through the entire school year. We will offer all our same great programs with our amazing teaching artists and our great arts enrichment program in visual art, music, theater and dance for after school!

Our after school arts program is open to children Kindergarten - 5th grade and runs from 3pm - 6pm, Monday - Friday and 1:30-6pm for Thursday's early release. Our arts classes are approximately 45 min - 1 hour long. We meet your child at the school office and take them back to our designated classroom. There children will have about 30 min. to have a snack and free time before class begins. After class children will have more time to explore the arts on their own, play various interactive games with the staff or simply sit and read until pick up time which is between 5-6pm.

You are also welcome to sign your child up for just the arts class. On the day you choose to have them join us please drop them off with us at 4pm and pick them up by 5pm. These classes are $15 per class or $60 for the month.

We are now offering a program for the Friday teacher work day's to help accommodate those families in the Bellingham School District. The Friday program will be all day from 8:30 - 5:30pm at Gabriel's Art Kids main location, 1415 Dupont St., and we offer a lunch time pick up option.

OUR (Tentative) CLASSES AT SUNNYLAND

Monday
Mixed Media
Young artists will explore guided shape exercises using the elements of design. Learn to make patterns with colors in a variety of styles. Discover positive and negative space relationships. Build creative confidence using a variety of media in this non-representational art form.

Tuesday
Drama Basics
This drama program will provide young children ages 5 to 12 with unique opportunities to develop clear speech, fluent delivery and pleasing social skills. Students in our drama class participate in a wide range of creative activities including speech, dramatic movement, improvisation, snippets and scene starters. At the end of each year they utilize all the skills acquired during the year to perform a short, scripted production for parents and friends.
In a fun-filled atmosphere, our classes aim to give our students ongoing confidence, self-esteem and skill in verbal communication.

Wednesday
Teaching Artist Series
A primary objective of our Arts in Education program is to cultivate the field of professional teaching artists. We will invite teaching artists from all over Whatcom County into our classroom to show and teach us how they create art. Each artist will teach for about a month, showing the students their techniques and then having them reproduce and create their own works of art.

**A Teaching Artist is a professional visual, performing, or literary artist who works in schools and in the community. The Teaching Artist may perform for the students and teachers, may work in long term or short-term residencies in classrooms or in a community setting, or may lead in program development through involvement in curricular planning and residencies with school partners. The Teaching Artist is an educator who integrates the creative process into the classroom and the community.

Thursday
Music Explorations & Discoveries
Each week we'll take our students on an imaginary journey to inspire creative learning with singing, movement and playing instruments.

Art Explorations
Art Explorations both encourages an interest in the arts and aims to develop students cognitive skills, self-esteem and self-expression. Students will use a variety of art media with ideas to excite the imagination and stimulate the senses. Materials will include but are not limited to - drawing, painting, sculpture, crafts and more!

Dance/ Creative Movement with instructors from Harper & I
Dancing is a wonderful way to learn to appreciate music and most importantly to learn to appreciate one's own body, discover its possibilities and truly connect to it and is designed to bring out children's natural creativity, to teach them to focus their energy, be aware of space around them, develop coordination, sense of rhythm and most importantly to get them to like to dance.

To register for these classes please fill out the registration form and submit with a $25 registration fee per student.

What Our Clients Are Saying

I stumbled upon Gabriel's quite by accident 3 years ago, and it has been one of the biggest blessings in our families life. I sent my first child, a then barely verbal 3 year old without many social tendencies, and within a year he had blossomed into a talkative nearly on par with peers social little boy who loved playing with friends. They offered him an environment that was rich in play and sensory, with staff that truly wear their hearts on their sleeves and give our children unconditional love and acceptance and a safe place to learn, with no expectations set upon them except to be who they are.
